The World Languages Education – Languages Other Than English (LOTE) minor is intended for teaching languages outside the world – languages other than English (LOTE). It is well suited to students in the College of Community Innovation and Education`s School of Teacher Education, with a focus on another area of secondary/K-12 content. It is also intended to provide university students outside the School of Teacher Educatio (such as students enrolled in interdisciplinary studies, international and world studies, or programs in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures) limited but substantial experience in the field of vocational education. This minor is not available to students awaiting status in a major of the School of Teacher Education. Students who successfully complete this minor can expect to increase their market value in careers that include educational components such as tuition, training, and lectures. This minor is designed to promote student success in the classroom, particularly in the K-12 school environment, but does not directly qualify students for teacher certification or admission to the College of Community Innovation and Education.

With our Spanish BA, you will not only be able to speak Spanish fluently when you complete your major, but you will also have knowledge and skills in literature, linguistics and culture of the Spanish-speaking world, as well as skills in translation and interpreting. We offer courses at all levels of language proficiency and in different teaching and learning modalities. The size of our Spanish courses allows for personalized attention and accessibility. The Faculty of Spanish has extensive experience and preparation in teaching language, linguistics, literatures and culture. Students of all levels are welcome. Language course placement is based on one year of language in high school equivalent to one semester of college work. For example, four years of Spanish in high school place the student in the first semester of the third year.
