All our interns are eligible for a scholarship as a contribution to the cost of living, which is paid by UNICEF or a partner institution. A one-time lump sum contribution to travel and visa costs may also be provided if funding is available. J1 visa holders must obtain a G4 visa abroad before starting an unpaid job or internship at WB. The Bank`s Internship Program is accepting applications for the summer semester (May – September 2022) by January 31. The Bank`s Internship Program (BIP) provides highly motivated individuals with the opportunity to learn more about the World Bank`s mission and work. The internship allows individuals to bring new perspectives, innovative ideas and research experience to the Bank`s work, while enhancing their skills in a diverse environment. Also, it`s a great way to expand resumes with hands-on work experience. Internships are available both in development and in other business areas (such as human resources, communications, accounting, etc.), but availability during a specific internship period is based on the needs of the company. To access the application, please click on the Apply button and note that only selected candidates will be contacted. The World Bank Internship Program typically seeks candidates for: operations (frontline) in the following areas: economics, finance, human development (public health, education, nutrition, population), social sciences (anthropology, sociology), agriculture, environment, engineering, urban planning, natural resource management, private sector development, and other related fields; or business support (accounting, communications, human resources management, information technology, treasury and other business services).
WB pays all interns an hourly wage and, if necessary, provides a subsidy for travel expenses up to a maximum of $3,000 at the discretion of the manager. These travel expenses can only include transportation costs (flight costs) to or from the city of employment. Interns are responsible for their own accommodation. Due to the needs of the company, most intern positions are located in Washington, D.C., with a few others in World Bank country offices. As a general rule, internship opportunities are at least four weeks. The WB internship is offered twice a year: • Summer internship (May-September): The application period is from December 1st to January 31st of each year. • Winter internship (November-March): The application period is from 1 to 31 October each year. All applications must be submitted online and during the respective application period. (We do not accept email applications.) If a UNICEF office determines that an intern needs to support their team, they will post the opportunity and all eligible applicants will be able to submit their application via our website. Current vacancies can be found on our Job Openings page.
All applications are stored in a database that is accessed by hiring managers based on company needs. Please note that candidates will not hear from us unless they are shortlisted by a hiring manager who wishes to hire an intern. Managers have access to the database of internships from February to July (summer internship) and November to January (winter internship).
