Ustr Legal Internship

USTR offers an internship program throughout the year. Below are the recommended deadlines for the submission of applications for the corresponding semesters; However, we accept applications after these dates: all internships at EOP pay a scholarship of $750 per week for full-time attendance (minimum 35 hours per week) and $375 per week for part-time participation (15-34 hours per week). Residential accommodation and resettlement assistance are not provided. Students may wish to integrate their particular areas of interest into USTR (e.g., Chinese Business, America, Europe, and the Middle East). Each resume should include the current address, phone number, and email address. The Office of the General Counsel, which includes the Office of Monitoring and Enforcement, provides legal advice to the U.S. Trade Representative, the Deputy U.S. Trade Officer, and regional and other USTR offices on negotiations, agreements, trade laws, certain trade remedies, administrative law, and government ethics. In addition, the Bureau monitors foreign governments` compliance with trade agreements with the United States and prosecutes and defends cases under WTO dispute settlement proceedings and the U.S. Free Trade Agreement. TID also accepts applications for internships/internships working on pro bono projects at law firms practicing international trade law.

These opportunities include potential positions at: Sidley Austin LLP in Washington, D.C.; Veirano Advogados in Sao Paolo; King & Spalding operates in Washington D.C. or remotely with offices in Geneva and London; and with Barral M Jorge Consultores Associados in Brasilia, Brazil. These opportunities are available to CMT students with experience in WTO law for the fall, spring and summer sessions. Eligibility and Citizenship: It is the Department`s policy to achieve drug-free employment, and individuals selected for employment must be tested for illicit drug use prior to final appointment. Employment also depends on the completion and satisfactory assessment of a background investigation. Congress generally prohibits agencies from employing non-citizens in the United States, with a few narrow exceptions set forth in the annual appropriations act (see www.usajobs.gov/Help/working-in-government/non-citizens/). According to DOJ guidelines, only U.S. citizens are eligible for employment at the Executive Office for Immigration Review, U.S. Trustee Offices, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Unless otherwise stated in a specific job posting, non-U.S.

citizens who meet the criteria of the Immigration and Assignment Act may apply for employment with other DOJ organizations. Please note, however, that the appointment of non-U.S. citizens are extremely rare; such appointments would be possible only if they were necessary for the implementation of the Department`s mandate and would be subject to strict security requirements. Applicants who hold dual citizenship in the United States and another country will be considered on a case-by-case basis. All DOJ employees are subject to a residency requirement. Applicants must have lived in the United States for at least three of the last five years. The three-year period is cumulative and not necessarily consecutive. Federal or military employees or dependents of federal or military employees serving abroad are exempt from this requirement. This is a departmental security requirement, which is waived only in extreme circumstances and dealt with on a case-by-case basis.
