Humphreys School of Law is an American Bar Association-accredited law school and the only law school in Memphis, Tennessee. The school has been affiliated with the University of Memphis since the founding of the law school in 1962. The school was named in honor of former University President Cecil C. Humphreys. The Faculty of Law has graduated more than 4,500 students since its inception and currently has approximately 460 students and twenty-three full-time faculty. The National Jurist Magazine consistently describes it as an “excellent value” in legal education. The law school has also had the highest bar transit rate in the state of Tennessee over the past 15 years, surpassing both Vanderbilt University School of Law and the University of Tennessee School of Law. In addition, it has had the best law school placement rate in the state over the past two years, with more than 98 percent of graduates employed within nine months of graduation. Many students participate in moot trial or mock trial teams, or are involved in one of the school`s law journals, the University of Memphis Law Review and the Tennessee Journal of Practice and Procedure.
Last year`s advocacy team finished second in the country behind Duke. A member of the Memphis team was named Best Oral Advocate. In addition, the school`s moot court and mock trial program has sent seven teams to national competitions in ten years.
