Baltic Sea Conditions in June

The Baltic Sea and in particular the Eastern Baltic Sea are somewhat protected shallow contiguous bays. It is very unusual for seasickness in such calm waters. Even during a summer storm 10 in the seas is considered great conditions and the hydrofoil is prevented from carrying passengers, but cruise ships and cargo ships would think they are reassured. Expect wind and rain for an hour or more on a summer tour. When it rains, it`s in the afternoon and for a short time. The morning is usually fair. As in most maritime climates, rain showers come in and out quickly and are just as likely to be dry and sunny an hour later. It is quite rare to have a day when it has rained all day, summer and winter. This winter we had more rain than snow, another total season lost for the ski resorts. Considering that we are less than 500 miles from the Arctic Circle, we have had very mild winters in 6 of the last 7 years, each of which has set heat records. Did not burst clothes in cold weather throughout the winter and used gloves only once. Weather data for the Baltic was collected as part of NASA`s MERRA-2 project, which used a climate model combined with historical data from weather stations around the world to estimate conditions at every point on Earth.

For the experienced, what did you see of the sea conditions in May compared to July? Is either less rough? With that in mind, on larger celebrity ships like Eclipse or Silhouette, how much better or worse are the cabins near the stern of the ship? Sea conditions vary throughout the year and from year to year. It is impossible to generalize the difference between these two months. I give typical conditions. But remember that Baltic weather is known to be unpredictable. For example, you might experience a hot day in early May or a rainy day in July. You can simply hope for the best. The closer you get to the beginning of this period, the more likely it is that these conditions will exist. These conditions occur less often in June than in July and August. I agree – the conditions of the sea are impossible to predict. However, every time I sailed on the Baltic Sea (May, June and August – all in different years), the seas were very calm.

Agree with previous posters that there is no single, perfect and generalized answer to this question. In general, the Baltic will be quite decent for its conditions. We did three different crossings on the North Sea in July and things were pretty decent for there, usually we look at a rougher part of the world. Personally, your “chances” for this region will probably be better in July. Temperatures sometimes skyrocket Crowds of tourists are high Cruise and plane fares Top cruises and airlines can be full Fog is most common in the open sea in April and May, while the seas are still cold, but the air temperature is rising. In March and April, fog frequencies are about 25% in southeastern Sweden and southern Gotland, and 10% elsewhere. In July and August, the frequencies are about 10% and 2% respectively. My fog page can help here. For comparison, the hottest month in the Baltics, July, has days with highs of 86°F (30°C) and lows of 64°F (18°C).

The coldest month, January, has days with highs of 26°F (-3°C) and lows of 8°F (-13°C). This graph shows what an average day looks like in the Baltics in June based on historical data. This change from the norm predicts that forecasts will be wrong as weather patterns change around the world, some will become much colder and others will become drier and warmer. It is a large river delta and the surrounding forests are usually swamps, but in recent years forest fires and droughts have been more problematic. Similar to mid-May-mid-June, but it rains less. And it has fewer hours of daylight to enjoy it. Each has its advantages and disadvantages, which I will summarize for you below. Marine weather observations and forecasts are viewed on the map at an hourly interval. The buttons in the right side panel allow you to choose the parameters to display: after the winter season, with its frequent expansions to the west of Siberia, the winds become weak and rather ill-defined in May, but after that, the frequency of depressions moving eastward increases, although only a few are particularly deep. A more definitive Western diet follows during the summer season, although there may still be longer periods of persistent anticyclonic weather, as for the United Kingdom. www.boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1227923 The Time Series window opens by clicking Station Page.

We also collected weather data for the Baltic Sea during all other months of the year: the average temperature in the Baltic Sea in June for a typical day ranges from a high of 81°F (27°C) to a low of 59°F (15°C). Some would describe it as slightly fresh and airy. Rates are at the lowest level Tourist crowds are moderate This graph shows the average amount of daylight in the Baltic countries in June, based on historical data. The wettest month in the Baltic Sea is June with a 38% chance of precipitation per typical day and gets 0.20 inches (5.2 mm) of precipitation, while the driest month in the Baltic Sea is January with a 13.1% chance of precipitation per typical day and gets 0.20 inches (5.2 mm) of precipitation. These graphs show the probability of rain or snow in June and the amount of precipitation. Sea breezes are frequent and develop around noon. Off the coast, land breezes are relatively rare. From June to August, the trend in the open sea is more oriented towards westerly winds and towards some increase in average strength to 12 knots in general and up to 14 in the Kattegat and near Rostock. Near the coast, the sea breeze dominates after noon.

These will be from a southern point along the Swedish coast and from a northern point along the Finnish coast. Baltic Sea cruises are full of full-day shore excursions. And the warm, blue days will enrich your adventures and country photos. Mid-May to mid-June Mid-June to mid-August Mid-August to mid-September In late spring and summer, after the ice melts, sea temperatures rise rapidly. Around the Danish islands and in the southern Baltic Sea at Kalinigrad, 10 or 11 ° C in May to August 17 to 18 degrees. South of Gotland, temperatures of 5 or 6 in May in August will be around 16 degrees. In the Gulf of Finland, the average temperature drops from just 1°C in May to 16°C or higher as we approach St. Petersburg in August. In April and May, the winds are very different in the direction, not particularly strong.

Not much can be said about the dominant directions. Across the Gulf of Finland, winds tend to be channeled from the Gulf. Be ENE or WSW. In southern Gotland, directions between south and east are relatively rare. In the Copenhagen/Kiel area, there is a certain trend towards the west towards the south-west. The average wind speed is 10 to 12 knots in April and closer to 10 knots in May. I totally agree. If you have a seasickness problem, you need to be ready every day you are on a ship, as it can be rough or calm at all times. The average day in the Baltic Sea in June has 15.4 hours of daylight, with sunrise at 5:45 a.m.

and sunset at 9:08 p.m. Not surprisingly, there can be large local variations across channels, between islands and in strong winds. The My Position button defines the area displayed based on the location of the device used when positioning is enabled. Larger ports and headlights can also be displayed on the map. The days can be agile and windy Cruise rainy on the Baltic Sea Seas can sometimes be rough You should expect calm seas, whether you sail in May or July, but like the rest of the year, bad weather/sea can happen. The day with the greatest amount of daylight in the Baltic Sea is June 21 with 15.5 hours, while December 18 has the shortest amount of daylight with only 8.9 hours. It depends on 100% of the weather and the weather is also impossible to predict, except that July is usually warmer than May, but this has no effect on the swell. Thunderstorms are likely at any time of the year. The typical number of days per month with thunderstorms from May to August ranges from 2 or 3 in Copenhagen and Stockholm to 4 or 5 in the east near Riga, St.

Petersburg and Helsinki. This summary of the weather in the Baltic Sea was derived from the literature, with much coming from The Admiralty Pilots and a world meteorological organization publication – The Climate of the Baltic Sea Basin. In general, pilots are, in my opinion, the most comprehensive and user-friendly source of weather information. Despite or probably because of their highly formalized and dust-free format, they are easy to use and contain all the information a sailor really needs. If you look at the averages, you won`t learn anything about the range that is likely to occur over a period of one day. The average would be 25°C if it were a comfortable constant of 25 throughout the day or went from 25°C to 5°C to 45°C, which would be a completely different experience. Average currents are very low. They are largely driven by the flow of water from rivers into the Baltic Sea and by melting ice. The evaporative effect produced by eastern surface flow through the Strait of Gibraltar into the Mediterranean is relatively small at these latitudes. The end result is a runoff from the Baltic Sea through the Kattegat. In the Gulf of Finland, there is a weak eastward current along the south coast and a return to the west along the north coast. In the Gulf of Bothnia, there is also a north current on the east side and a southern current along the Swedish coast.

These currents are usually about 1/4 to 1/2 knot. and check the very specific weather history in many major cities around the world for their past temperatures in that particular region for a date in the past.
